...People in the Doorways

What is it with the people in the doorways. I am a college student and spend about seven hours on campus everyday. Without fail, each day I happen to run into someone that I haven't seen in some time, whether it be a week, a month or years. There is normally a short exchange of pleasantries and then we move on, normally because we have somewhere to be.
That scenario shouldn't seem too unfamiliar for most people. I'm sure most of us have had a similar experience. The thing I don't get is the various locations that people find it appropriate to have such conversations. On a daily, sometimes even every few hours, I will be entering, or exiting for that matter, a building when to my surprise, and disappointment, I find two people engaging in one of these conversations in a doorway. Not only are they causing some traffic issues, somehow, these people, are oblivious to the fact that they are in the way. Somehow, despite the 300 students filing in and out of the building, they cannot seem to identify the fact that they are a nuisance to the rest of us. I don't understand what is going through the minds of these people in the doorways.
